The 2nd Annual Cinema Buzz Movie Trip Awards were held last night in Kansas City, Missouri at the Screenland Tapcade and the big winner was “Hidden Figures” winning two awards including Movie of the Year. “Hidden Figures” the story of three African-American women mathematicians who served a vital role at NASA during the ’60s was shot primarily in Atlanta on the campus of Morehouse College also won Best Period Movie. The hit musical “La La Land” walked away with the win for Best Contemporary Movie. The film shot at 48 locations around Los Angeles in just 42 days including Griffith Park, Hermosa Pier and the Watts Towers. The blockbuster film “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” which shot in several different countries around the world including the dark southern coast of Iceland, the desert of Jordan, the studios of England, and in the paradise-like destination Maldives won Best Sci-Fi/Fantasty/Horror Movie. The Israeli film “Sand Storm” about a teen’s forbidden love affair that challenges the traditions of her Bedouin mother and father won Best International Movie. Movie Trip which was created and is based in Kansas City, Missouri awarded the documentary “Big Sonia” Best Local Movie. The film is about a 90-year-old Holocaust survivor who is served an eviction notice for her tailor shop, which has thrived for 35 years and must now choose between setting up a new shop or retiring. Netflix received an award for Special Recognition. Through it’s series of shows the digital platform is influencing the way people travel and vacation. The nominees were chosen by a panel of award-winning film critics. The winners were selected by fans who voted.
